Smileage: Miles of Smiles to YOU

There are so many reasons to smile in Cincinnati this Thanksgiving Day!

  • Super sunny day for turkey day.

  • You can still register and pick up all our stuff at The Running Spot, O'Bryonville on Wednesday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. AND on race day at Paul Brown Stadium, GATE C.

  • Free parking at PBS lots A, B, C, D, E, F.

  • Warm bathrooms inside the stadium.

  • Stay warm in your coat and then give it to Goodwill volunteers.

  • Did we say good weather?

  • Lots of healthy exercise and guilt-free pumpkin pie, stuffing, turkey, yams...

  • Skip the family flag football this year. No need to tackle Uncle Frank when you just beat him at the race!

  • Being with thousands of friends and family for a morning party.

  • The Running Spot is having a 20% off sale until Nov. 26. New stuff for you!

  • Great volunteers. Great charities. Great sponsors.

  • We will take your picture at the finish line so keep that smile alive and strong!

Go On a Diet Diet!

Should you weigh yourself every day?

To weigh or not to weigh? That's a personal question. If you find it better to weigh yourself each morning to keep things in check, then go ahead. If weighing is only going to disappoint you or possibly set you up to fail then don't do it. Remember: Food, fluids, clothing, and shoes will always affect the scale and your frame of mind. And a scale does not indicate just how healthy and lean you are!

Live On Pain-Free!

If you stop exercising, will your muscle turn to fat?

NO. Muscle and fat are two different types of tissue and one cannot turn into the other. Fat is how we store fuel. A muscle is how we use it. Certainly muscles become smaller if you stop exercising (If you don't use it you lose it!) and fat becomes larger if you keep eating. So, keep walking and running, dancing and playing!

Wipe That Smile Right On Your Face!

Why do runners and walkers lie LESS about their age?

Running and walking slows down the aging process. That means it will make you look young, feel young, and act young! Therefore, you will astound people and will never have to lie about your age. That's why The Thanksgiving Day 10k is a great idea....

Running On Time... and Faster!

Here are some great running and walking thoughts to make you faster and calmer!
  • Roll off all five toes.
  • Pretend you are winning the Thanksgiving Day Race!
  • Loosen your fists as if you're holding onto potato chips.
  • Soften face and eyes.
  • Breathing in 1-2-3. Breathing out 1-2-3.
  • No wrinkles on forehead.
  • Pretend you're demonstrating perfect form to hundreds of kids.
  • It's supposed to be fun. Remember?

I. Really. Can!

Why can I do it?

Get my entire family—all 15 of us—
on that starting line... and FINISH line.
Woohoo!

"Our lives never follow a straight line. Nor should they. We take detours. We sometimes stall. But we always move forward. Here's to 16,000 pairs of steps moving in the same direction."
